A Sound Built Together

Lucky 17 brings together four distinct musical voices to create a sound that is greater than the sum of its parts. Rooted in folk, rock, and country, the band blends rich harmonies, evocative melodies, and insightful lyrics into a timeless Americana sound—at once intimate and expansive.

At its core, Lucky 17 is a quartet, anchored by Caroline Barlow, Tony Pace, Daniel “Ozzie” Andrews, and Ed Dupas. The project was conceived as a living collaboration, growing outward from a duet foundation and inviting additional musicians as the music and moment call for it—both in the studio and on stage.

Caroline Barlow, a singer, songwriter, and artistic director based in Petoskey, Michigan, brings a heartfelt sensibility and a voice often compared to Gillian Welch and Mary Chapin Carpenter. With two decades immersed in folk and roots music, her deep love of storytelling shapes Lucky 17’s emotional center.

Tony Pace, a seasoned dobro player and multi-instrumentalist, channels the lonesome spirit of acoustic roots music. A co-founder of the bluegrass group Wayward Roots and a longtime presence at venues like the Ann Arbor Folk Festival, Tony adds both texture and drive to the band’s sound.

Daniel “Ozzie” Andrews, a versatile bassist with a global résumé, has performed from Detroit to San Francisco and beyond. His steady groove and dynamic range—recognized by critics including Ann Powers of The New York Times—anchor Lucky 17’s wide-ranging musical palette.

Ed Dupas, an Americana artist based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, brings lyrical depth shaped by life’s fractures and reckonings. Influenced by writers like Springsteen and Kristofferson, his songs explore the beauty, tension, and resilience of the human condition.

Since debuting at Blissfest in Northern Michigan, Lucky 17 has been steadily weaving its way into the regional music scene, earning a reputation for compelling performances and a sound that evolves from night to night. Whether as an intimate quartet or an expanded ensemble, Lucky 17 creates music that feels like a journey—deeply personal, quietly powerful, and open-ended.
